THINGS TO DO WHEN YOU ARE IN A BORING MEETING

THINGS TO DO WHEN YOU ARE IN A BORING MEETING
We all attend meetings every day at work. Although, the top management and the workforce knows that meetings are a ‘time killer’, we still have to go on meeting and kill our valuable time at work. So whenever you go to a meeting that you feel boring, you need to ‘look positive’ and still work on your daily targets.
Thinking of Helping your Own Work
If you think that you have answered enough questions from the presenter and feel that the Chair will not look at you anymore (being cheeky  ...), think of how you can improve your present working processes.  Jot them down and keep them to discuss with your subordinates after this boring meeting.  You may find a good solution to one of your long outstanding problems.
Respond to your Mail.
If the meeting is to be long and boring you can plan to take your Laptop, Pad or even a Smart Phone (keep it silent J) and respond to the emails. For the lengthy responses required, you may only send a holding mail, so the recipient will know that you respond later (Make sure to reply as you promised later J).  Make sure the chairmen or the other attendees will not be disturbed. However, this may not be practical in some organisations where the bosses are very firm L
Learn New Areas that helps your work
You may find new areas (processes as well as gadgets) that are available outside that may be easier for you to carry out your day to day work. Try to look at them and do some reading on those laptops or pads. I did that once and started looking at MS Publisher and that helped me to do the next company newsletter.
However, make sure that you don’t dwell on the web to look for unrelated content J.
Winning the hearts and Minds of People at Home
We always missed some stuff when we go home after a tired day from office.  So take this boring meeting an opportunity to do the wish lists to your wife and children. Let them be happy when you come home. After all, we do all this to be happy.
How could I make this meeting better?
If you don’t have anything that was discussed above, try to see what the failure points of this meeting. List down what you would do if you were in the Chair or even the presenter of this meeting. List those improvement you can do to the meeting, it may come handy to you.
